Sep 26: AI Policy and Stakeholder Tracking Report

Driving The Day

Today is September 26, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, at least 22 federal agencies posted compliance plans that discuss their AI usage policies. In addition, the U.S. House Science Committee passed two bipartisan AI-related bills, including one that would address AI safety incident reporting. Meanwhile, a deepfake caller posing as the former foreign minister from Ukraine spoke on video to Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Ben Cardin (D-MD) before the senator grew suspicious and reported the call. According to France’s special envoy for AI, the international AI summit held in France next year will focus on “concrete action and deliverables” addressing the impact of AI on topics like work, disinformation, and climate, in contrast to the U.K.’s summit last year that focused on existential AI risks.
