Today is September 25, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bipartisan bill that would require the Department of Homeland Security to explore using AI tools for border enforcement. In the U.S. Senate, Democrats introduced the AI Civil Rights Act, which is intended to combat AI discrimination. Meanwhile, the Federal Trade Commission announced enforcement actions against five companies using “deceptive AI claims and schemes.” Across the pond, at least 115 organizations signed the EU’s AI Pact, a set of voluntary commitments meant to “pave the way for compliance” with the AI Act’s forthcoming, binding rules. However, Meta, Apple, Mistral, and TikTok were not among the initial signatories.
