Today is October 6, 2023, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, semiconductor manufacturers are warning the Biden Administration against further limiting the sale of advanced computer chips to China. Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department advised EU officials that their draft AI Act would benefit the largest AI companies and hurt smaller companies. In the U.K., Technology Secretary Michelle Donelan hopes her country’s upcoming AI Summit will result in an early warning system that requires companies to quickly identify and prevent major AI threats. Also, the U.K.’s data privacy authority sent a preliminary enforcement notice to Snap over its AI chatbot potentially risking children’s data privacy.
