Nov. 21: AI Policy and Stakeholder Tracking Report

Driving The Day

Today is November 21, 2023, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: With Sam Altman and potentially many more OpenAI employees considering a move to Microsoft, as well as OpenAI’s board approaching Anthropic about a potential merger, some are wondering whether recent actions in the AI industry will catch the attention of antitrust regulators. In the EU, some policymakers see the turmoil at OpenAI as an additional reason to regulate the industry rather than rely on voluntary commitments. Meanwhile, negotiations over the EU’s approach to AI governance continue today, as officials will discuss three remaining areas of disagreement on the AI Act. In California, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) Administration issued recommendations for state agencies using AI.

Housekeeping Note: In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the AI Policy and Stakeholder Updates email will pause on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. It will resume on Monday, November 27.
