Today is May 20, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, Politico suggests Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) may be an ally for those worried about the use of unregulated AI in the health care industry. Despite harboring “reservations” about the legislation, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) signed a bill on Friday that regulates the use of high-risk AI in his state, which includes new transparency requirements for AI developers. Meanwhile, the U.K.’s AI Safety Institute announced plans to open an office in San Francisco, which it hopes will put them closer to “the epicenter of AI development.” Lastly, representatives from several nations will meet this week for an AI safety summit hosted by South Korea and the U.K.
