Today is May 15, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) AI working group released their roadmap for AI governance. Schumer expects some individual AI bills to pass the Senate by the end of the year but doesn’t think comprehensive legislation is possible. Meanwhile, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced his opposition to a bill under consideration in the Senate Rules Committee that would prohibit “the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to create deceptive content about federal candidates to influence elections.” Lastly, Politico examined Connecticut and Colorado lawmakers’ respective efforts to establish wide-ranging AI rules for their states.
