Today is March 29, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: An FEC Commissioner argued any new regulations from the agency to combat election deepfakes would be limited in scope to instances of “candidate-on-candidate” bad actions perpetrated with AI tech, unless Congress expands the agency’s authority. Five states, meanwhile, have enacted new laws this year restricting election deepfakes, with several other states considering similar bills. In New York City, an AI chatbot rolled out by the city government to help business owners is advising them to violate the law.
