Today is March 25, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: According to Politico, federal lawmakers are beginning to think about liability as it relates to the use of AI in the health care industry. Meanwhile, dozens of civil society organizations signed a letter to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo in support of open source AI. In Texas, a bipartisan group of state lawmakers are working on comprehensive AI regulations ahead of next year’s legislative session. In Europe, companies, along with some EU officials, are seeking “a halt on new tech rules” while the EU focuses on implementing the tech laws it adopted in the past few years. Lastly, Politico reported that the Future of Life Institute received a $665 million donation from a cryptocurrency mogul that will help fund the organization’s efforts to make existential risk a top issue on Washington’s AI agenda.
