Today is March 18, 2025, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, the U.S. Commerce Department banned DeepSeek from government devices. In California, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) AI task force released a preliminary report with policy recommendations for lawmakers. Across the pond, the EU’s law enforcement agency warned AI is making organized crime more effective. Lastly, more than 400 actors and creatives signed a letter urging the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to maintain existing copyright laws that protect their content from AI.
