Today is June 4, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, the chairman of the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) argues a proposed FCC rule on AI-generated campaign ads would conflict with the FEC’s work on AI election issues. On Capitol Hill, the Joint Economic Committee is holding a hearing to examine AI’s impact on economic growth, public governance, and the workforce. The Center for Democracy and Technology endorsed the DEFIANCE Act, federal legislation that would give victims of intimate deepfakes the ability to take legal action against creators. Lastly, Microsoft reported Russian “influence actors” are sowing AI-generated disinformation about the 2024 Paris Olympics.
