Today is June 18, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and a bipartisan group of cosponsors introduced legislation that would require social media companies to remove deepfake porn images “within 48 hours of receiving a valid request from a victim.” Meanwhile, UNESCO released a report warning that AI chatbots could spread “false and misleading claims about the Holocaust,” and a new study showed that leading generative AI chatbots are spreading Russian misinformation. Lastly, the Center for American Progress, in partnership with Governing for Impact, released a report highlighting the existing authorities that federal agencies could use to enforce restrictions on AI.
