Driving The Day

Today is June 14, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise met with Republican members of the House AI task force and, in a follow-up interview, said he doesn't believe House Republicans are interested in heavy regulation of AI. In Colorado, insurance regulators face “thorny questions” as they develop rules to prevent discrimination caused by AI tools. Speaking to G7 leaders, Pope Francis warned about AI’s risks, including the potential for AI to be used as a weapon and the risk that AI locks in Western cultural dominance. Lastly, a new poll from the Artificial Intelligence Policy Institute suggests a majority of Americans prefer “regulation that mandates safety testing of frontier AI systems and government oversight to certify new AI models.”
