Today is July 23, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: Competition regulators in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union released a joint statement expressing their commitment to address AI-related competition risks. A group of U.S. senators sent a letter to OpenAI requesting information about the company’s efforts “to meet its public commitments on safety.” Meta suggested the EU risks creating a technology gap between Europe and other parts of the world after the EU asked Meta to “pause the training of its future AI models on data in the region.” Lastly, the MIT Technology Review examined how well AI developers adhered to voluntary commitments made with the White House last year.
