Today is January 31, 2025, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, D.C., the U.S. House of Representatives urged staffers not to use Chinese AI company DeepSeek’s chatbot for their official duties, the Pentagon blocked use of the chatbot on its network, and the Commerce Department began investigating whether DeepSeek’s models were trained using restricted AI chips. According to Bloomberg, “hundreds” of companies around the world have also restricted access to DeepSeek’s AI models. Meanwhile, across the pond, the U.K. Government released a new code of practice to protect AI systems from cyberattacks.
