Dec 18: AI Policy and Stakeholder Tracking Report

Driving The Day

Today is December 18, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, the short-term funding bill being considered on Capitol Hill includes a provision that would require tech platforms to take down intimate deepfakes of minors. Meanwhile, Politico suggests Rep. French Hill (R-AR), who in January will become chair of the House Financial Services Committee, will be a “powerful new ally” for Silicon Valley and emerging technology sectors. In California, some of those involved in Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) AI working group suggest it may propose a less intrusive approach to AI safety policies than California’s SB 1047, which Gov. Newsom vetoed this year. Meanwhile, several European tech leaders urged policymakers in the EU to implement AI Act rules in a way that supports innovation and competitiveness for Europe’s technology industry.
