Dec 13: AI Policy and Stakeholder Tracking Report

Driving The Day

Today is December 13, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: President Trump’s nominee to lead the Federal Trade Commission promised to fight what he calls “Big Tech’s vendetta against competition and free speech,” while also urging caution regarding new AI regulations. Meanwhile, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) discussed how she believes her state can be a leader in developing AI technology and how AI can be “harnessed for public good.” At the same time, Bloomberg noted that Gov. Hochul’s administration is not enforcing the AI safety guidelines she announced earlier this year. Lastly, a Chinese ministry announced plans to establish an AI standards committee that will include representatives from a major tech company and academia.
