Today is August 23, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: The CEO of Anthropic argued the benefits of California SB 1047 “likely outweigh its costs” after lawmakers revised the bill based on some of Anthropic’s feedback, though there remain “aspects of the bill which seem concerning” to the company. Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed interest in cooperating with the U.K. on AI issues during a call with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Reuters reported that Chinese entities are using Amazon’s AWS cloud services “to access advanced U.S. chips and artificial intelligence capabilities.” In Canada, the National Security Transparency Advisory Group wants security agencies to report on their use of AI technology.
