Today is August 22, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) stated he is hopeful the U.S. Congress will pass “a great AI package which keeps innovation as our North Star” by year’s end. In California, OpenAI expressed its opposition to SB 1047, a bill that would regulate the most advanced AI models. The Center for Security and Emerging Technology published a report arguing the U.S. embargo on exporting AI chips to China may unintentionally restrict the export of some general-purpose processors as well.
