Apr. 9: AI Policy and Stakeholder Tracking Report

Driving The Day

Today is April 9, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) introduced a bill that would require AI developers to submit to the Register of Copyrights “a sufficiently detailed summary of any copyrighted works” used in the training dataset of their past and future generative AI models. Across the pond, several European political parties signed an election code of conduct that restricts the use of AI in campaigning unless the AI-generated content is labeled. According to The Washington Post, OpenAI plans “to lean heavily into the idea that U.S. AI companies are a bulwark against China” as it fends off lawsuits and navigates increasing scrutiny from government agencies. Lastly, the Center for AI Policy is pitching a broad AI governance proposal that would, among other things, create an AI safety agency and grant emergency powers to the President in the case of a major AI security risk.
