Apr. 16: AI Policy and Stakeholder Tracking Report

Driving The Day

Today is April 16, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, a bipartisan group of U.S. senators is proposing a framework for addressing “the extreme risks posed by future developments in advanced AI models.” In Massachusetts, the Attorney General issued an advisory to remind “developers, suppliers, and users of AI” that existing consumer protection and discrimination laws apply to AI tools. Despite widespread concern over the impact of deepfakes on elections around the globe, Politico suggests the threat so far is “more theoretical than hard fact.” Lastly, Microsoft announced a $1.5 billion investment in G42, an AI developer based in the United Arab Emirates. The investment comes after G42 struck a deal with the U.S. government to divest from China, which “helped lay the groundwork for Microsoft to invest.”
