Today is April 12, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission argued in an amicus brief that Workday, which develops human resources software, could be considered an “employment agency” under the law, making the company potentially responsible for instances where its software may have violated anti-bias hiring laws. The Washington Post outlined key things to watch as a congressional committee begins consideration of a comprehensive, bipartisan data privacy proposal. In May, the second AI safety summit will take place in South Korea, a follow-up to the November summit held in the U.K. Lastly, Arthur Mensch, CEO of French AI developer Mistral, argues that U.S. preeminence in the AI industry is a threat since AI models “are producing content and shaping our cultural understanding of the world.”
