Today is April 11, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, an FTC official stated that liability for AI harms could fall on either AI model developers or those building AI tools, depending on the circumstances. Meanwhile, an antitrust official with the Department of Justice stated his agency is “on the lookout for AI competitors sharing board members.” In Iowa, Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) signed a bill restricting the use of AI for child pornography. Across the pond, the U.K.’s competition watchdog is concerned that partnerships between top AI firms could harm competition, with a new report from the agency identifying “an ‘interconnected web’ of over 90 partnerships and strategic investments involving the same firms: Google, Apple, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and Nvidia.”
