Today is April 1, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: To help U.S. companies comply with export restrictions, U.S. officials are working on a list of Chinese companies making advanced chips. Meanwhile, China criticized the Biden Administration’s latest revisions to export controls on advanced technologies, while leading American AI companies are pushing chip manufacturers to relocate operations to Mexico. OpenAI announced a new voice generation tool, though the company won’t yet widely release the tool due to concerns over the potential for its abuse. The Center for AI Policy pointed out that industry, government, and nonprofit players independently expressed support recently for “experimentally testing AI systems to ensure safety.” Lastly, The Wall Street Journal dug into the liability issues companies may face over “the things their AIs say and do.”
