Today is April 25, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Connecticut, state Sen. James Maroney’s bill intended to regulate AI models broadly passed the State Senate and now goes to the House of Representatives. Connecticut lawmakers are coordinating with lawmakers in other states on similar legislation, including Colorado, where such a bill passed out of committee today. Meanwhile, a think tank fellow wrote about the popularity of “soft law” approaches to AI regulation in Washington, like voluntary commitments and standards-setting. Lastly, Tech Policy Press explained that in some Asian countries, privacy regulators “are actively shaping AI governance and policy with existing tools.”
