Today is April 23, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: In Washington, more than 80 organizations wrote a letter urging Congress to fully fund the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) "budget request for AI-related work... including through the agency’s recently established U.S. AI Safety Institute." In Utah, new AI rules take effect on May 1, including mandatory disclosures for “the use of generative AI in consumer-facing applications.” In Australia, the nation’s domestic intelligence chief cautioned, “AI is likely to make radicalization easier and faster.” Lastly, leading AI developers agreed to implement measures to prevent their technology from being used to exploit children.
