Today is April 22, 2024, and here are the key policymaker and stakeholder actions on AI you need to know: U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo emphasized her commitment to keeping advanced U.S. chips out of China. In Connecticut, state Sen. James Maroney revised his wide-ranging AI proposal to address concerns from industry that it would be “too restrictive to innovation.” However, not all industry stakeholders are criticizing the legislation, with IBM endorsing the bill today as “an outstanding model which other states and the U.S. Congress would be wise to follow.” Lastly, researchers at Stanford University warned that the largely government-funded agency coordinating the fight against child sexual abuse material will soon be overwhelmed due to AI-generated content.
